Newsletter #1
Welcome to the first edition of the ABVT Newsletter.
The purpose of this Newsletter is to provide open communication to all athletes, coaches, officials and anyone interested in keeping up to date with everything to do with the ABVT. Our aim is to provide a Newsletter before each event at a minimum or as important information comes to hand.
The Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (ABVT) is the premier elite domestic Beach Volleyball series in Australia. The tour attracts Australia’s best athletes and welcomes international wildcard entries while bringing to the sand a spectacle of exciting talent!
The tour has been developed to provide a competition that is professionally delivered and fair to all who participate. Providing an environment that encourages ever increasing levels of competition that are the prime ingredients in maximizing the enjoyment of everyone involved and providing competitive playing opportunities for the top level beach volleyball athletes in Australia.
2021 ABVT IS FIVB HOMOLOGATED
We have received confirmation from the FIVB that the 2021
ABVT will be Homologated. This means all Division 1 events in the ABVT will
attract World Tour Points, depending on overall finishing position. Players
finishing 9th and above (all Main Draw teams that progress from their pools)
will be awarded with a range of points depending on their final finishing
position.
This is great news especially since no athletes have been able to earn any WT points in 2020.
CHANGES TO ABVRS
Due to the Global Pandemic (COVID-19) VA has made the decision to change the ABVRS (for the 2021 ABVT Summer only) which means the ABVRS will be back-dated to include the domestic summer 2019/20 and FIVB 2019 to account for domestic players unable to play due to social-distancing restrictions and World Tour events not being held.
Please see excerpt below from the ABVT Sport Regulations:
“All approved Australian entries will be ranked using the ABVRS. The ABVRS, as default, shows player points from their best 10 results since 28th June 2019 (adjusted for the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season). For the purposes of an ABVT Tour Event, a team’s seeding will be based on the combined points of both players for their best 5 events each since 28th June 2019. This will set from 10 days prior to the first day of competition”.
